Every generation needs a voice for the people, a person willing to stand up and speak about the issues surrounding them in the world they live in. 21-year-old Grime and spoken word artist Sonny Green is an amazing young talent with a moral and social conscience at the centre of his work.
Sonny is a young musical poet, overflowing with energy and bursting with a passion to raise consciousness and provoke thoughts for progress in society, making a hiatus from the commercial negative narrative of many modern day rap and hip hop artists, and stepping beyond the common self-consuming love and sex lyrical plot. His words and music addresses a wide spectrum of topics within society such as social behaviour, media manipulations, permaculture, domestic violence, global agendas and street culture.
At the age of 14, Sonny began experimenting with music in his local Connexions youth center on the Cluny Square estate, Southend. After 140 TV filmed him freestyling, he was encouraged to make a 14-track mixtape, exploring the social issues that had become prevalent in his lyrics. 'When Words Fail Music Speaks' sold 10,000 copies and secured Sonny a weekly residence at renowned Dalston venue Passing Clouds.
Then aged just 17, he ditched his A-Levels and pitched up his tent outside St Paul's Cathedral, to stand in solidarity with the Occupy movement, ensuring that the voice of his generation was not ignored.
A few months later, Sonny became the first-ever rapper to perform at The House of Commons, sharing the stage with Fatboy Slim as part of a concert organised in association with Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Charity.
After supporting Asian Dub Foundation at a gig at Broadwater Farm, he was quickly recruited to join them live, to date he has played over 50 venues across Europe and has consistently delivered
