When Ocean Colour Scene’s former guitarist Andy Bennett announced in February 2015 he was leaving the band to pursue solo projects, a few eyebrows were raised. As an eight -year old Andy was taught to play guitar by Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Cradock and was asked to join OCS alongside Dan Sealey following the departure of original bassist Damon Minchella back in 2003. Perhaps best known for his terrific track ‘Old Pair Of Jeans’ on Ocean Colour Scene’s Painting album, it is great to welcome Andy back with his debut single ‘Hole In The Road.
Lyrically gripping the track appears self-reflective with Andy informing "The song is about trying to get somewhere but hurdles are always getting in the way”. With Andy playing guitar, bass and drums in addition to delivering a moving vocal, ‘Hole In The Road’ highlights both Andy’s fine songwriting and versatility as a musician. Complemented beautifully by Danny McCormack on piano and strings the track will captivate those who give it a listen as well as delighting fans of Ocean Colour Scene (as they continue to wait patiently for new material).
