Noel Gallagher on Acid House: 'Best years of my youth'
Powered by AB Project

In an interview with Record Collector, Noel Gallagher talked about his love of Acid House. 'I love Acid House. I collect all the old tunes. I've got most of them now, there's only a couple that I've not got but I've ripped them off YouTube.' and went on to add 'Those first three years of - 1987, '88, '89 - are hands-down...forget fucking Britpop and all that. To me, that's the best three years of my youth, music-wise, ever. Madchester was great and punk and all that, but I was at the right fucking time for acid house. I lived on Whitworth Street, which the Hacienda was, and it was our thing. I still get goosebumps now if I think of the nights. They were great times, just when clubbing was new and this music was new.'

In an interview I did with Paolo Hewitt he told me about how much Noel Gallagher loved Acid House and said 'Acid House was about big choruses. Everyone was on ecstacy. And Oasis had big choruses. Noel used to go a lot to Acid House clubs and you had the football culture too.And there was a dance element to Oasis. Acid house was very important because it bridged that gap. I mean the Stone Roses wouldnt have been that successful without Acid house or the Happy Mondays."
