New Order Bernard Sumner on his adidas SPZl collaboration

In an interview with GQ, Bernard Sumner discussed his recent addias SPZL collaboration with Gary Aspden:" “I knew Gary Aspden from the Haçienda days – Adidas Spezial is his baby,” Bernard Sumner, lead vocalist and guitarist of New Order, told GQ. “He always mentioned working with us and approached us and our visual designer, former GQ art editor Warren Jackson. I said I’d do it, as long as the collaboration wasn't just a rubber-stamping process.”

Sumner recalled his upbringing in Salford: "“In that hostile environment, your clothes acted as a badge to say, 'Look, I’m one of you, don't beat me up,'” explained Sumner. “During the 1970s there was a skinhead-meets-suedehead, football casual uniform consisting of Ben Sherman shirts, footy jerseys, Levi's jeans, parkas and Crombies – youth club-wear that has seeped its way into the designs on this collection.”

The collection was designed for New Order fans and is available to buy from 18 September. It is made up of a mesh and nylon jacket, which comes with a New Order-themed sleeve patch, a football jersey that uses the band's “Tour” graphic and is emblazoned with the song title “586”, a cotton and recycled PES blend track jacket and a T-shirt that comes complete with the new dual-branding “_nwrdrSPZL”.
