Brit pop meets Arthouse: Pretty Green X Katie Eary
Powered by AB Project

For S/S 18 Pretty Green have collaborated with celebrated British Designer Katie Eary for a 16-piece capsule collection. The NewGen winner and RCA Graduate has created an offering of parkas, polos, shirts, bucket hats and swim shorts in two exclusive prints. Known for her take on subculture and a fan of Irvine Welsh and William Burroughs, Eary has previously created collections inspired by the Acid House scene, Cybergoths, Seditionaries and Football hooligans.

‘When the opportunity to collaborate with Katie Eary arose, it was one that felt like a great fit as there were many creative visions shared by both brands’ explains Pretty Green Design Director Pat Salter, ‘prints are intrinsic with both Pretty Green and Katie Eary and therefore the exploration of both brands DNA resulted in a very natural collaboration.’

The brief for the project was for me to create a version of an existing Pretty Green print’ says Eary, ‘in this case the paisley, so I chose Irvine Welsh’s book Acid House as inspiration and decided I wanted to incorporate animals and something dark’ The result is two repeat patterns featuring Blue bottle flies in green and blue. ‘I’d been wanted to work with the brand for several seasons and it was an exciting creative relationship between myself and the team at Pretty Green, it was exciting to execute my prints through their brand vision.’

To celebrate the collection the brand shot the look book and video starring break-through Brit Indie artist Bakar with photographer Sophie Jones with Paritzan, linking the brands rich musical heritage with new, up and coming artists on the UK scene. ‘I’m a rock and roll girl at heart’ says Eary, ‘ and I want to work with a company linked to this legendary music status - to do something that felt personal to me. I’ve done the hip hop thing for years in my collections and I wanted to work on something that took me back to my roots and excited me.’ Not that the collection is just for rock and roll indie types, explains Eary; ‘It’s a state of mind rather than an aesthetic.’
