The Verve: Their 10 best Songs
Powered by AB Project

On April 27th 1999, The Verve, Wigan's finest and one of the most influential bands of the 1990s, announced they had split up.

The band, led by singer and songwriter genius Richard Ashcroft, produced three amazing and critically acclaimed albums the last of which, Urban Hymns, propelled the band to the rock super league, selling 2.5m copies in Britain and 5m worldwide. Urban Hymns is considered to be one of the best British albums of all time.

The band won best album and best group at the Brit awards - they chose to play a gig at the Brixton Academy instead that night and Ashcroft was given an Ivor Novello award for best songwriter.

After the success of Urban Hymns and their second break-up the band would reform again and release their fourth studio album 'Forth' after which they broke up again. Today Ashcroft enjoys a succesful solo career.

Without a shadow of a doubt, their songs will be there forever and Richard Ahscroft; the creative force in the band was and continues to be one of the best singer songwriters of all time.

When you have a songwriter like Richard Ashcroft, it's hard to choose just ten tracks and maybe they are all different in a few days but well these are for me their ten best songs.
