Blur and new studio album.

Blur have discussed their new album 'The Magic Whip', which was announced earlier yesterday with BBC's Steve Lamaq (February 19).

Talking to BBC 6 Music, frontman Damon Albarn explained that the album was kept a secret because it wasn't finished until yesterday.

"Mixing finished about last Friday and we literally mastered it yesterday. The reason that we've kept it secret is because we didn't have a record until yesterday!" said Albarn.

Albarn also discussed the band's last album, 2003's 'Think Tank', which was recorded without guitarist Graham Coxon. "This is our first Blur record since 13 because well Think Tank was not really a Blur record cos it was only the three of us as Graham was no there."

Blur announced their eighth studio album  February 19th. Titled "THE MAGIC WHIP", the album’s artwork was published in The Sun with the suggestion that it’s for a “massive band, more than a decade after their last full studio release.”

The tabloid went on to add that the band’s last album was released in the Chinese year of the goat, which was 2003, the year Think Tank came out.

"The Magic Whip" will be released on April 27th and the band will headline British Summer Time at Hyde Park on June 20th. Tickets go on sale Friday 27th at 9 am.
